So when I was in high school nobody but our parents had cell phones. I didn't even have one til I married Blaine (at 19).
Nowadays even kids as young as 8 years old have a cell phone! People think it's crazy, but I could see the benefits of it. You can always get ahold of your child, if they're at a friends house or playing outside across the street or they missed the bus or at school they can easily get ahold of you if something is wrong (though obviously if they're at school they'd have to keep it off in their bags or something). Or what if you're in a store and you lose track of them for a minute? Whip out the phone!
But... is an 8 year old really ready to be responsible enough to take care of a fairly expensive (guess it depends on the phone or if there was a rebate) electronic devise? Even I have been known to damage many more than one phone in the 7 years I've had one.
Well, my son Kadan... not even 6 yet... has decided he is ready for a phone. More specifically... he feels he is ready to start texting.
Text sent to my Dad at 2:15 today... (bolded words are just to point them out in the blog)

Well obviously I am proud that he ALMOST got his name all typed right at the beginning. The rest I have no clue about... except somehow he managed to type 'dude' in there.
If anyone else gets a random text from my son... well... i guess feel free to text him back, and I'll make sure he gets it. LOL
